A is for Apple

I am creating an alphabet of fruits for children. On the front of each piece I am creating a design of the fruit and the letter in upper and lower case. The back of each piece has a couple of fun facts about the fruit and a kid-friendly recipe. The purpose of this project is to introduce young children to the alphabet in a fun, visual way and to teach healthy eating habits and encourage an interest in cooking from an early age. Summer Beach Fun

This piece was inspired by a summer day spent at Robert Moses State Park. The Fire Island lighthouse is in the background. There were so many children playing in the sand and having such a good time. What are your memories of visiting the beach as a child?

Dog

This is the second piece in my cut-out animal series. I intentionally used bold colors and fun designs to appeal to children.

Elephant

No, I did not run into an elephant on the way home from work! I am creating a series of fun designs of animals for children. They are all black cut-outs of animals with brightly colored decorations. I like to experiment with the contrast of the colorful paper against the black design.

The Perfect Tree

Over the last few weekends, Christmas tree sellers have magically appeared on street corners up and down Broadway. It's entertaining to watch families choose the perfect tree. Children enjoy this unique city festivity immensely. Scenes such as these inspired this piece which is black construction paper on white drawing paper.

Summer Street Fun

Cooling off and splashing around at an open fire hydrant is a summertime phenomenon in New York City. I was inspired to create this piece after seeing some children playing at an outdoor sprinkler in Morningside Park. I painted the sky with gouache paint and cut out the scene with gouache painted and color aid paper.
