Amaryllis
I have a beautiful amaryllis growing at home. For the past several years, I've tried to grow amaryllis every winter without much success. This year, my mother gave me a bulb that has amazed us all. I really can't take credit for its success; my husband has tended it daily with his "green thumb". There are two bulbs growing; one has already burst open with four enormous bright, red flowers and a second bulb is quickly shooting up. This is a watercolor sketch of one of the flowers. I'll have more amaryllis pieces to share soon!

Yellow Rose
I created a series of roses for Valentine's Day. This is the first piece. The background is painted with gouache paint and the rose is cut out from gouache-painted paper.

Spring Orchid
I'm pleased to share my first piece in a new series of orchid collages. I received a stunning fuschia orchid as a gift about a month ago. The flowers are continuing to bloom beautifully and I've wanted to interpret it artistically. This weekend, inspiration hit and I began work on this series. Speaking of orchids, did you know that vanilla is part of the orchid family?Thursday, May 6, 2010
