Morningside Sunrise

Yesterday morning I saw the sun rising over Morningside Park and reflecting off a tall building nearby. Inspired by the scene, I created this piece. The sky is a wash of gouache paint and the composition is cut out gouache painted paper.

Carriage Ride

When chatting with my grandmother this past weekend, she asked if there were still carriage rides in Central Park. I told her that there are and they are very popular with tourists on the weekend. She suggested I create a collage of the horses and carriages and here it is! The Central Park scene is gouache and gouache-painted paper and the horse and carriage are cut out with color aid paper.

Swinging, Two and Three

Here, I experimented with the silhouette and negative image of the couple swing dancing. The top piece is a silhouette of the two dancers against a bright, full moon. The bottom piece is the negative image of the dancers created after I cut out the silhouette of the couple. I like how both the silhouette and the negative image of the dancers leaves space for the viewer to imagine details.

Swinging

My husband and I love to swing dance! In this piece, I tried to capture the movement and fun of swing dancing. I used color aid paper for the background and the dancers. I like the clean lines and bright colors of the color aid paper.

Central Park Sunrise

Throughout this summer, my husband and I have enjoyed early morning bike rides through Central Park. Watching the city wake up is always a treat. This collage portrays the scene at the Great Hill with the tall buildings of the Upper West Side and Morningside Heights against the canopy of lush summer trees. I used gouache-painted paper to create this piece.

Summer Reading

Walking through Central Park the other day, I saw a woman sitting beneath a tree and reading. It was a perfect summer day with a cloudless blue sky. I envisioned this piece and sketched out the composition when I returned home. I used tissue paper for the tree trunk and gouache painted paper for the grass and leaves. I cut out the woman and book with color aid and sketch paper.

Shakespeare Garden

There is a lovely, tucked away garden in Central Park called the Shakespeare Garden. Using tissue paper, I tried to portray the colors of the garden in an abstract way. When pasted, the tissue paper bleeds to create new colors and textured patterns.
