Central Park

I am experimenting with creating abstract collages with tissue paper. This piece portrays Central Park with the buildings of Midtown in the background. The tissue paper creates an interesting texture when it is pasted and dried.

Summer Street Fun

Cooling off and splashing around at an open fire hydrant is a summertime phenomenon in New York City. I was inspired to create this piece after seeing some children playing at an outdoor sprinkler in Morningside Park. I painted the sky with gouache paint and cut out the scene with gouache painted and color aid paper.

New York City Sunrise

On a recent trip to upstate New York, I took the "red eye" bus back to the city. We arrived just as dawn broke. Approaching the city from New Jersey afforded a breathtaking view of sunrise over Midtown. Based on that vision, I created this collage with color aid paper. I tried to keep the composition simple to accentuate the glow of the Midtown skyscrapers against the rising sun.

Red and Yellow Sailboats

After a recent trip to Martha's Vineyard, I created these pieces. Sitting at the beach one afternoon in Oak Bluffs, I observed the intense blue and green hues of the ocean against the strikingly bright colors of sailboats on the distant horizon. I loved the contrasting bold colors and the intense visual experience created. I used gouache paint for the sky and ocean and cut out gouache painted paper for the sailboat.

Beach Day II

I created a second collage of a beach scene using color aid paper. This collage captures the spirit of the "dog days" of summer when sitting at the beach with a great novel feels ideal! I enjoyed experimenting with different shades of blue paper to portray the gently rolling waves.

Beach Day

Sunny days, cool ocean waters, sparkling golden sand - the quintessential summer experience! Do you remember summer visits to the beach when you ran through the burning sand and jumped into the blissfully cool water? This collage celebrates the bright colors and warm tones of the beach. I used color aid paper to accentuate the strikingly bold colors encountered at the ocean.

Great Lawn

The Great Lawn in Central Park is always a lively spot during the summer. On a recent summer evening, I enjoyed watching young couples playing ball and frisbee and families gathering for picnics. The Great Lawn has a dramatic view of the Midtown skyline against the green canopy of trees in the park. I created this collage in an attempt to capture that view.
